CALL FOR ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE: YOUKI Trophäenwerkstatt

YOUKI is again searching for an artist in residence for the upcoming festival edition, who will design the trophies for the winners of YOUKI film competition at the Medien Kultur Haus Wels from November 19 - 21, 2024! Every year YOUKI's International Film Competition gives 6 film awards to international up-and-coming filmmakers. In addition to award money, the winners receive unique trophies, which have been designed by artists from various artistic disciplines for many years.

Every year YOUKI's International Film Competition gives 6 film awards to international up-and-coming filmmakers. In addition to award money, the winners receive unique trophies, which have been designed by artists from various artistic disciplines for many years. Every year, YOUKI sets up a special trophy workshop in the festival center in the Medien Kultur Haus Wels, where the artworks are produced. This open lab invites the audience to get an insight into the production process of the trophies. Not only the trophies themselves become a YOUKI highlight - their creation and the opportunity to meet the artist in residence behind the trophies has become an integral part of the YOUKI program.

What shape these trophies take is open: Textile and digital art are just as welcome as paintings, sculptures, photographs - and everything in between and beyond! Artists from all disciplines can get creative, deepen their creative practices or try something new. The residency is intended to be a testing space, but also requires good planning and enough experience to complete 6 works in a short period of time.

A workplace in the Medien Kultur Haus Wels with open lab character
Budget for the entire artistic assignment (incl. material costs): € 500
Accommodation and meals in Wels
Presentation of the art works in the YOUKI catalog 2024, as well as on the YOUKI homepage and social media channels
Presentation of the artworks at the award ceremony of the international film competition
Free access to the entire festival program
Exchange with an audience and team interested in art and media

Application details

The application must be sent as a PDF file by 30.06. by e-mail to lisa.heuschober@youki.at by June 30th and must contain the following information

Project design for the Trophies 2024:
Drawings, written descriptions, photos, collages, digital designs or similar. The project design should give a clear idea of the final product and illustrate the process of making the trophies (including ideas on materials, tools and workspace)
(Length: max. half a page to a page) .
Basic information: Name, age, place of residence and contact information (email and phone)
A brief description of artistic/creative work, interests, bio that can be used for festival catalog if applicable (approx. 600 characters)
If available: Portfolio / work samples / insights into previous work.
